Financial Services
Financial services are a complex landscape to navigate, amongst economic developments and changing policy, technological advancements and evolving regulation. Building on our deep commercial, regulatory and policy expertise of the sector, we support clients in navigating this complexity and making better decisions.
We draw on competition economics, regulatory expertise, behavioural science and analytical capabilities to advise leading financial services providers – including retail and investment banks, insurers, payment and infrastructure providers and regulators – on regulation, policy, competition and commercial decisions.
Job Description:
Our Consultants work within talented and engaged teams to distil complex economic issues, enabling our clients to make evidence-based arguments and informed decisions. Consultants utilise their analytical skills and economic tools to interpret data, delivering exceptional outcomes. Confident in developing new analytical techniques, our Consultants handle a wide range of projects and services, communicating effectively with diverse clients and successfully navigating various project situations.
Consultants scope and structure substantial workstreams, ensuring timely delivery and problem-solving as needed. Building strong, trusting relationships with clients is key, allowing Consultants to help clients maximize the value of our work. Our Consultants are adept at deciding how to share project outputs and defusing challenging situations, ensuring client satisfaction and successful project completion. They are expected to demonstrate the following competencies:

Analysis and Problem Solving:

  • Scope and deliver a variety of projects; applying theoretical knowledge and techniques to provide valuable client insights.
  • Design and specify analytical frameworks for both small and complex projects, addressing client issues with minimal senior input.
  • Oversee and integrate work from multiple team members, ensuring quality and coherence in final outputs.
  • Train and mentor colleagues in advanced technical approaches, delegating sophisticated tasks effectively.

Communication Skills:

  • Lead various types of client meetings whilst considering different perspectives, listening actively and appropriately challenging ideas.
  • Structure, review and edit client outputs with minimal input from others.
  • Provide feedback and on-the-job training on all aspects of writing and presentation.
  • Able to anticipate and address communication issues, both within the team and with clients, and assist clients in overcoming their own communication challenges.

Work Management Skills:

  • Scope and lead substantial workstreams, demonstrating good project management skills throughout the project life cycle.
  • Pro-actively manage budget, scope and deliverables jointly with client, with support from project managers.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise colleagues on workstreams, ensuring they are motivated and aware of expectations, wider project and client content.
  • Seek and respond to feedback from colleagues and clients.

Client Relationships Skills:

  • Build relationships beyond day to day projects , networking regularly and appropriately with clients and other contacts.
  • Identify and flag potential opportunities with new clients, including for cross practice working, and take them forward where appropriate.
  • Seek formal and informal feedback for the workstream and act on what it shows.
  • Help clients get the most value from our work, by knowing how they will want to use it (as individuals and organisations).

Essential requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills; credible with the ability to influence a wide range of people
  • Good project management skills; able to motivate others with a clear purpose and manage multiple projects
  • Good commercial acumen; exercises good judgement to identify appropriate solutions
  • Good data skills – able to interrogate data and produce actionable insights
