The ideal applicant must show initiative and be a dedicated self-starter. The applicant should be organized and willing to work on multiple projects at a time, providing opportunities for creativity and time management skill development. Experience working directly with businesses/organizations and interacting with a diverse range of people is a key asset. This position requires a positive, outgoing personality, as well as strong organizational and communication skills. Proficiency in creating social media posts using tools like Canva, along with skills in writing content, and photo and video editing, is preferred.
The successful applicant must have a valid G driver’s license with appropriate insurance and access to a reliable vehicle, to visit businesses and attend events. The candidate must also be currently enrolled as a student and returning to school in the fall. Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in a university or college business, commerce, economics, marketing, tourism or planning program with an interest in business/economic development, and a passion for supporting the local community.
Responsibilities:
The Township of Oro-Medonte is currently accepting applications for an Economic Development Student. The Economic Development Student will work with Township staff to implement the Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan Recommendations. The role involves engaging with local businesses and organizations, and various internal departments. Responsibilities will include research, data collection and analysis, developing and creating digital content, and promotional materials. Additional duties include administrative tasks such as meeting attendance and minutes, file organization, website updates, databases, and other documents. There may be a requirement for coordination, setup and representation at public events. The position also entails performing other economic development activities and duties as required.
