Main accountabilities:

  • Lead the development and delivery of VSA’s core modelling projects and products, including the VSA’s Employment Model and Vocational Education and Training Skills Alignment (VETSA) model.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of economic models and frameworks across the Victorian Skills Authority, acting as a technical expert within the organisation.
  • Manage and mentors a group of two analysts, and work with the Team manager to set the strategic direction and foster a collaborative and high-performing team.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, providing high-quality, timely and influential advice that supports policy-setting across the skills and employment system in Victoria and maximise the impact of the team’s analytical products

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

The Economic Modelling Lead plays a pivotal role in leading the design, delivery and continuous enhancement of VSA’s core economic models, including its Employment Model and Vocational Education and Training Skills Alignment (VETSA) model.
In this role, you work with your Team Manager to set the direction for the VSA’s economic modelling and collaborate with stakeholders across Government to embed modelling outputs into decision-making. You will be the VSA’s go-to expert for economic modelling techniques and methodologies and, alongside your Team Manager, lead and mentor a dedicated group of analysts and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.

The key role of this Branch is to deliver cutting edge advice on skills needs, labour market intelligence and VET performance in Victoria. Its program of work includes:

  • developing high quality projects such as the Victorian Skills Plan
  • delivering a survey program to approximately 30,000 Victorian employers of apprentices and trainees and around 180,000 Victorian VET students
  • generating detailed insights into VET quality, performance and outcomes
  • forecasting labour demand, estimating VET training needs, assessing skill shortages, modelling skills trends and conducting sophisticated analysis
