We’re looking for an interstate superstar for a hybrid Editor / Markets Reporter role.
The purpose of this role is to check every piece of written content before uploading it onto the TML website. The editor checks written copy for errors and risk and works to improve story flow and readability. They will craft engaging headlines and lead Search Engine Optimisation strategy and implementation. They will direct the editorial team workload and rostered work times, as well as contributing to the written content and being the WordPress SME.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Editing and Proofreading financial news articles for clarity, accuracy, grammar, an adherence to editorial guidelines
• Driving editorial team for maximum content output prior to market open (and across the board)
• Model good work ethics to other staff
• Attend and engage in morning daily huddle meetings
• Reviewing and fact checking data, statistics, and financial information in daily articles for maintaining reliability, correctness, style consistency and quality
• Collaborating with writers, journalists, and reporters to enhance article content, structure, and readability
• Coordinating with the editorial team to meet deadlines and ensure a smooth publication process
• Checking and uploading contributor content into WordPress
• Creating quality content for our readership – using data & investor community feedback to guide editorial direction
• Lead and maintain processes around WordPress, Microsoft Planner and any other editorial management tools
• Help support events in whatever is required for on-site coverage
• Assist with sub-editing presenter scripts as required
• Ensuring articles comply with media law, industry-specific terminology, style guides, and editorial policies
• Monitoring and staying updated on financial news, trends, and regulatory changes
• Checking for potential media law breaches, escalating or removing content of risk
• Applying investor / company relevance and perspective to key macro themes and news of the day
• Maintaining awareness of competitor editorial offerings
• Providing guidance, mentorship and support to junior editors or writers
• Support the Executive Producer in driving the goal of The Market Online and HotCopper to be the one-stop shop for investors to learn, research and discuss their investments

The successful candidate will have the following:

• Journalism degree or cadetship and minimum 5 years experience as a writer for an online publication and/or newspaper
• Exceptional grammar, spelling, attention to detail and English newspaper-style writing skills
• Ability to identify a news story and write with inverted pyramid flow
• Ability to craft enticing headlines
• Hunger for news and to be a news leader
• Knowledge of defamation, copyright & contempt of court laws, and, ASX compliance rules and ability to raise red flags
• Knowledge of SEOs

Candidates will be highly regarded if they posses:

• A genuine interest in finance and business news and company matters
• Knowledge of ASX trading, ASX companies

This role’s working hours will align primarily with the ASX trading hours
