Job Title: Manager, Education & Adventure Programs

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor degree of Education or Business preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience required
  • 3-5 years’ proven experience in management/supervisory role
  • Experience and qualifications preferred in at least 2 of the following areas: Outdoor Education, First Nations, Wildlife/Ecology, Physical Education, Health/Wellness, Sustainability, Tourism, Corporate training, Facilitation and demonstrated leadership.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of staff and external contacts
  • Awareness and demonstrated sensitivity towards British Columbia’s rich First Nations history and culture.
  • Understanding of SQL database reports and PowerBI reporting an asset
  • Strong problem solving & decision-making skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including opening, closing, weekends, and holidays
  • High energy and a strong work ethic
  • Able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Basic knowledge of reservation and/or sales software systems (such as Tripleseat and Siriusware) and strong knowledge of MS Office to assist in office support, with competency in Moodle, Zoom, Podia and OBS.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds in snowshoe equipment for purposes of set-up and put-away
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively lead others through tasks
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and written, communication skills in French & other languages are an asset
  • Successful candidate must complete a criminal record check once offered the position. The check must be completed prior to start date if you are 19 years and older. Grouse Mountain will assist you with the process.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement the fiscal sales, business development strategy and program plan for the following areas:
  • Education Programs
  • Adventure Programs
  • Corporate Adventure Training (CAT) Programs
  • Snowshoe Programs
  • Summer Adventure Camp Programs
  • Design, update and create new curriculum for educational field trips to align with the BC Curriculum for science, social studies, and physical education
  • Manage the guest experience and ensure service standards are met or exceeded to achieve a high Net Promotor Score
  • Prepare reports and business proposals for each area
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth and program expansion while monitoring market trends
  • Liaise with Grouse Mountain Sales and Marketing department to ensure delivery of programs is consistent with the Grouse Mountain brand
  • Work with Guest Services Manager to respond to all guest comments
  • Hiring, training, leading and coordinating a team of up to 60 employees including Adventure Camp Leaders, Education Leaders and Adventure Guides
  • Promoting a positive work environment and culture by leading by example and maintaining strong and supportive relationships with all staff
  • Maintaining the profitability of the Adventure Programs & Education department with the parameters of the specific budget
  • Following forecasted labour budgets, controlling labour to keep in line with current and forecasted events
  • Reviewing monthly income statements, managing payroll & expenses
  • Developing relationships and maintaining communication with leaders in other departments, in specific to coordinate assistance for large scale events and groups
  • Maintaining inventory management for all materials, supplies and educational artifacts used for program offerings
  • Planning and executing annual Teacher’s Open House
  • Support Rental Manager in utilization, maintenance and inventory of snowshoe fleet
  • Completing yearly equipment spending budgets and completing annual purchases for all rental, zipline and ropes equipment and PPE
  • Ensuring adherence to HR policies and procedures within the department
  • Interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching new Adventure Program Guides, Education Leaders and Camp Leaders
  • Maintaining and developing exceptional service standards and culture
  • Conducting probation and annual performance evaluations for team members
  • As a valued member of the management team, you may be required for duties within the department but outside of your regular role
  • All other duties as required
