OPPORTUNITY

MacEwan University is seeking an empathetic and approachable Education and Engagement Facilitator for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Office of Human Rights. Reporting to the Director, you will lead the development and implementation of education, training, planning and student engagement opportunities related to human rights, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to inquiries as the first point of contact and subject matter expert in human rights, equity, inclusion and belonging;
  • Planning, developing, coordinating, and delivering new and existing in-person and online educational programs to a broad group of stakeholders;
  • Supporting the development and implementation of the University’s multi-year strategic and operational plans to address EDI and human rights needs and issues;
  • Working closely with diverse campus units to determine the education needs of students, staff and faculty, and developing tailored and responsive education programs and awareness initiatives;
  • Ensuring the integration and alignment of human rights and EDI education programming across the University;
  • Leading student engagements, leadership initiatives and outreach activities, including the recruitment, training, supervision and management of the MacEwan OHR student training initiative, Champions of Diversity and Equity (CODE);
  • Designing, building, and implementing EDI learning resources across different learning platforms using Universal Design for Learning principles and interactive eLearning courses;
  • Managing logistics of EDI training;
  • Supporting faculty in utilizing pedagogical approaches and developing learning activities that are aligned with anti-oppression and trauma-informed practice;
  • Developing and implementing strategy to guide EDI initiatives;
  • Collaborating with internal communications and marketing services to develop and implement strategic communication plans, including campus-wide awareness and education campaigns;
  • Leading and coordinating initiatives with various EDI committees across campus;
  • Leading the development of student volunteer programming;
  • Developing, posting and maintaining information and awareness resources and promotional materials;
  • Leading and developing the revision of relevant policies and procedures;
  • Writing grant applications and other proposals;
  • Prepares annual reports; and
  • Compiling and preparing materials for meetings.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • Knowledge of EDI principles and the needs and experiences of equity-deserving communities, preferably gained through lived experience;
  • An understanding of the concepts of systemic and structural discrimination and bias and their impact on equity-deserving communities;
  • Familiarity with provincial and federal human rights legislation;
  • The ability to provide effective leadership to committees and working groups;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy;
  • The ability to build and maintain positive, constructive and effective relationships with individuals, student groups, campus offices, and external stakeholders;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills;
  • An understanding of effective learning strategies, student development and adult education;
  • The ability to take responsibility and deliver results with minimal direction and oversight;
  • Planning, administrative, and organizational skills, with an ability to exercise sound independent judgment;
  • Effective time management, decision-making, and prioritization skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and data management systems; and
  • Extensive knowledge of systemic inequities, EDI theory and practice.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in social sciences or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience related to supporting EDI development and implementation at an organization-wide level, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
  • Experience managing projects in a complex work environment.
  • Experience designing and delivering EDI training (including anti-racism), workshops, events, and community activities.
  • Experience applying EDI principles and frameworks within programming, service, and education initiatives.
  • Experience advising stakeholders and incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities into programming, service, and education initiatives.
  • Additional training or certification in Human Rights and EDI would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with volunteer management is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, including lived experience.

  • Occasional flexibility in work hours is required, including some evening work.
