The O’Brien Institute for Public Health in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an Educational Advisor. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Brenda Strafford Centre on Aging (BSCoA) is a cross-faculty, interdisciplinary entity embedded in the O’Brien Institute for Public Health in the Cumming School of Medicine. The BSCoA aims to create an ecosystem of innovation that transforms environments, practices, and policies impacting the health and well-being of older adults. It catalyzes networks and leads collaborative innovations through research, education, and community engagement.
The Educational Advisor with other members of the BSCoA team (Academic Lead, Manager, Project Coordinator, Research Coordinator) supports interdisciplinary aging-related research and educational activities at the University of Calgary. The position will lead a special project that is part of the BSCoA’s Age-Friendly University initiative.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Develop and implement a protocol to review the Cumming School of Medicine’s undergraduate and graduate programs to identify current and potential opportunities for students to learn about topics related to aging and older adults
- Identify and develop resources to support faculty/department leaders and instructors with adapting existing courses and creating new courses that address aging and older adult issues that reflect the growing societal need for expertise in this area
- Offer expert advice and support to faculty/department leaders and instructors to enhance student learning about aging and older adults as well as to foster positive, experiential interactions with older adults in educational settings
- Support the planning and delivery of events and the development of communications to share information about the review with key stakeholders
- Develop and track metrics to assess the implementation and outcomes of the review
- Create written reports, presentations, and other materials to provide BSCoA leadership and key stakeholders with timely updates on the progress and outcomes of the review
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
- Masters or PhD in education or a health-related discipline is required. Equivalent experience will be considered
- Candidates with training focused on aging or older adults are preferred
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in managing complex projects that involve multiple components and rely on coordination of both internal and external stakeholders
- Experience within a post-secondary education environment, particularly as an instructor
- Experience conducting audits or environmental scans
- Experience initiating and facilitating ongoing stakeholder engagement for projects
- Experience planning and executing events of various sizes for different audiences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
- Well-developed understanding of the aging and older adult landscape, with the ability to recognize emerging trends and opportunities
- Advanced understanding of the University of Calgary’s processes and procedures. Familiarity with the Cumming School of Medicine’s educational programs and operations is considered an asset
- Superior organizational skills to perform multiple tasks effectively, efficiently, and on time with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong strategic and critical thinking skills to develop innovative solutions
- Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills to effectively manage collaborative activities involving internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, with the ability to adapt both forms of communication as appropriate for different audiences
