(D) Deaf/ (HH) Hard of Hearing / Blind Support

The Greater Victoria School District provides public educational services to over 20,000 students in the Greater Victoria Area, encompassing six municipalities. To provide this service, the district has a current operating budget of $210 million and employs approximately 3,500 staff; which includes, teachers, principals and vice-principals, support staff, psychologists, speech and language pathologists and exempt managerial staff.
The Greater Victoria School District is seeking an Educational Assistant – (D) Deaf/ (HH) Hard of Hearing ASL Signer to support a student at the elementary school level. The Educational Assistant reports to the District Principal of Inclusive Learning, and under the general direction of the classroom teacher(s), the teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or the teacher of the Visually impaired and the supervision of the Principal, provides assistance to students, monitors student behaviour and facilitates the inclusion of the student in the school setting. As such this is an itinerant position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Assistant Program Certificate or equivalent post-secondary courses in child/ adolescent development or behavior management including non -violent crisis intervention techniques
Current First Aid
Certificate in ASL level one or equivalent and a willingness to learn Signed English or Signed Supported Speech and/ or Cued Speech
Provincial Outreach Program Deaf Blind Course (or equivalent college course)
Personal care may be necessary

This is a temporary position until June 26th, 2025 or return of the incumbent, 30 hours per week, CUPE 947 position with the hourly rate of pay being $30, plus 13% in lieu of benefits.
