JOB VACANCY TRANSFER/EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Competition #: # 39 B 2024- 2025Position: Educational Assistant Description: BCGEU Location: GWC Status: Part Time Regular Appointment FTE .7857 (5hrs & 30 mins daily) @ 26.34/hr Commencement Date: January 23, 2025 Education Assistants work to support our priority students with a variety of learning and/or social, emotional, and behavioural needs, as well as provide general supervision in the school. Applicants should have an inclusive, positive, and supportive attitude; be willing to learn; have a growth mindset; identify and work with student strengths; and a desire to help each student find their pathway to success. Applicants must be willing to work with any assigned student in a variety of school settings; implement safety plans and behavioural supports as necessary; and be able to support student learning in all subject areas. Flexibility, responsiveness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential.
EA work often includes frequent and strenuous activity in the school environment. This may involve tasks such as crouching beside desks, sitting on the floor with students, or engaging in active play and learning activities; supporting students with mobility; participating in the school’s swim program; and working with students who may exhibit impulsive behaviours, such as running out of a classroom. Qualifications: 1. Secondary School graduation.
2. Previous experience in working with children. 3. Ability to organize work effectively.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff. 5. Ability to handle and maintain all information with a high degree of confidentiality.
6. Equivalent combination of training and experience. 7. Familiarity with Indigenous culture is an asset.
