Responsibilities:

The Emergency Department Nurse Educator is a registered professional nurse who has the expertise in nursing professional development, education, and/or a specific area(s) of nursing practice. Experience for this role includes an in-depth understanding and management of a wide scope of patients including adult, pediatric, and geriatric populations presenting to the Emergency Department. The Nurse Educator must have an in-depth understanding of the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Practice and the Emergency Nurses Association Standards of Practice. She/he is a member of the Nursing Leadership team and supports the Organization s Mission, Vision, and Values, and actively participates in the shared governance process. She/he is responsible and accountable for the development and application of the Standards of Care and policies and procedures of Jersey City Medical Center-RWJBH, in an effort to enhance the quality of care provided to patients and families. The primary function is that of an educator, practitioner, consultant and change agent. Assesses data relevant to the learner s progress, and interprets the appropriate information necessary to develop group and individual learning plans. The Nurse Educator is a clinical expert with abilities to foster the clinical development of the staff that she/he guides. This individual will be responsible to assess the educational needs of the staff on an on-going basis and to serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, fellow educators, Management, allied professional staff and other healthcare providers. In addition to the aforementioned skills, the nurse educator must possess clinical experience, training, and education aligned with their specialty practice area of focus. The Nurse Educator will assist in the orientation and clinical practice in the Emergency Department. The Nurse Educator will participate in the Nurse Residency Program. Qualified applicants for this role need demonstrated clinical experience in Emergency Nursing, Trauma care and resuscitation, Emergency Severity Index, Triage, disaster preparedness, management of critically ill patients, The Nurse Educator may assist in other departments as clinically requested by nursing leadership.   • Conducts classes to promote the effectiveness of unit orientation and updates education as required to reflect current policies and procedures, evidenced based practices and standards of care
  • Develops, coordinates, manages, facilitates, conducts, and evaluates competency assessments and competency programs for all staff within the department of nursing
