Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Effects Supervisor provides supervision and direction of the FX crew on a given project, in addition to supporting talent and technology development within the FX department. This position serves as a role model and mentor for the FX department, with the objective of encouraging a team environment, and producing high-quality imagery.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as a hands-on collaborator with the VFX Supervisor, to uphold the creative vision of the Director
  • Lead a team of FX TDs through the life cycle of a show, to deliver various effects for projects including FX animation, procedural simulation, dynamic simulation, particle and fluid systems
  • Guide and deliver look development and setup for FX simulations
  • In collaboration with key players, create a show’s FX approach plan with consideration of big picture goals of the show
  • Provide timely feedback to FX crew members on both aesthetic and technical elements
  • Take on some shotwork for the project - balance of this and supervisory duties to be monitored and discussed with production
  • Troubleshoot issues related to shotwork or FX pipeline
  • Communicate with all levels of Production, VFX Supervisor, client/director, discipline supervisor peers and FX crew
  • Participate in the creation and submission of shot bids for show
  • Assemble crew for production, assess individual’s skills, and delegate work appropriately
  • With department Talent Manager, support talent related decisions and responsibilities including: recruitment, career development, employee morale and performance reviews
  • Apply pipeline scripting knowledge and ability to develop small scale, show specific tools for non-FX TDs and other FX TDs. Where appropriate, develop these into department level tools for cross-show use.
  • Set a standard for all Technical Directors by continually improving the speed, quality of our work and adaptability
