POSITION OVERVIEW
Fraser Crossing Partners, selected by the Province of British Columbia to design, build and partially finance the project, is a 50/50 joint venture between Aecon and Acciona. The new four-lane cable-stayed bridge over the Fraser River will provide network connections to New Westminster and Surrey, feature a centre safety median barrier and wider lanes to accommodate both passenger and commercial vehicles, and have dedicated walking and cycling lanes. The project also includes the construction of connecting roadways on the north and south sides of the bridge, grade separations on Highway 17, and the removal of the existing bridge once the new bridge is complete.
Reporting the EHS Director, the EHS Manager will be responsible for promoting the health, safety and environmental culture overseeing our Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project in New Westminster and Surrey, BC. The Manager will oversee a team of Advisors while working with the senior management team to ensure continuous improvement and standards are met on site.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing health and safety for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of WorkSafeBC legislation and regulations
- Bachelor’s degree and Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred.
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or equivalent
- Experience in working on heavy civil infrastructure, specifically Tunneling or Mining projects is required.
- Background in Training and/or Education and or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.
- Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Excellent meeting and training facilitation skills
- Understanding of Workers Compensation and return-to-work programs
- Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record and the ability to drive to job sites.
The expected pay range for this position is $110,000 - $120,000.

Responsibilities:
- Provide site specific safety training, orientation and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
- Develop and train supervisors and staff on the Health, Safety and Environmental Manual
- Review project plans and project sites before work commences, identifying safety-related risks.
- Inspect active project sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and general public.
- Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.
- Work with senior management to create plans for emergency procedures.
- Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards.
- Investigate incidents to identify causes and to determine corrective/preventive action plans.
- Represent project at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters.
- Other duties as assigned.
