JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:
As an EHS Specialist III, your primary focus will be on protecting our associates, the environment, and our facility from harm. You will establish systems and provide leadership for the identification and monitoring of workplace safety risks and environmental impact. You will analyze work processes, materials, equipment, and the work habits of employees. You will evaluate solutions, residual risk, and prioritizing management action. You will also identify potential or actual areas of non-compliance through audits or inspections and ensuring appropriate corrective and preventive action is taken. Additionally, you will facilitate our observation-based safety program and develop, implement, and improve written environmental, health, and safety programs based on OSHA and EPA regulations, Thermo Fisher Scientific corporate standards, and best management practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
Equivalent experience in a technical field (chemistry, biology, environmental, safety, etc.) with training in core Environmental, Health and Safety field is also acceptable.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years in safety or environmental field in a manufacturing environment, preferred.
  • 1+ yrs of experience in local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulatory compliance, preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for acquiring solutions.
  • Good technical and project management skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and daily responsibilities.
  • Good verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to develop and foster creative and innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of employees.
  • Ability to discern and appropriately communicate sensitive issues.
  • Physical demand lifting 50 to 70 pounds and being able to move 55-gallon drums with drum carts.

Responsibilities:

Facilitating RCCM, completing accident investigations, and implementing corrective action.
Maintaining OSHA accident and illness logs for the Grand Island organization umbrella.
Completing job safety and ergonomic analysis, making recommendations, and working with management to implement change.
Completing process hazard analyses.
Developing and maintaining facility safety and environmental internal audit programs.
Conducting site inspections for environmental and safety compliance. Assisting in safety committees and awareness programs.
Developing and delivering training programs.
Reporting hazard communication and MSDS programs.
Performing all job duties consistent with the Code of Ethics, the 4-I values and within regulatory or statutory requirements.
