Description:

This position is based at EIB Permanent Representative in Brussels, Belgium and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment.
The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Projects Directorate (PJ) – Housing, Cities & Regions Department (HCR) – JASPERS Coordination & Capacity Building Division (JCC), at its EIB Permanent Representative in Brussels, Belgium: TRAINEE
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2025)

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

  • Final year of studies or university degree in climate change, engineering, architecture, natural science or other relevant fields.
  • Familiarity with EU climate policy framework
  • Experience on climate adaptation/resilience through academic studies or previous work experience. Candidates are requested to provide details of their experience in their application.
  • Knowledge of urban environment climate resilience would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of applied research methods and a general understanding of knowledge management techniques.
  • Experience in research activities in an academic setting, production of academic papers/publications would be an advantage.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office software, in particular Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Knowledge of advanced Excel features (e.g. VBA scripts) would be an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the assigned Supervisor from the JCC Capacity Building Coordination Division, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Perform a literature review on nature-based solutions that could be implemented in different types of infrastructure projects (e.g. urban regeneration, buildings, water, transport).
  • Review past assignments carried out by JASPERS or EIB that may include nature-based solutions.
  • Collect input from JASPERS sector experts on potential NBS that could be practically implemented in each sector.
  • Develop a database of NBS per type of infrastructure including information on efficiency, costs and limitations.
  • Draft the JASPERS technical publication on nature-based solutions in collaboration with the JASPERS climate change working group.
  • Contribute to PJ (JASPERS) assignments related to climate proofing and development of further guidance/tools on the subject.
  • Contribute to the systematization of PJ (JASPERS) adaptation offerings.
  • Support JASPERS in the preparation of case studies related to climate adaptation.
