Description:

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are seeking someone who takes a proactive approach in identifying opportunities to engage with media. You will be a confident leader, capable of managing competing priorities and delivering results due to your excellent project and time management skills.
You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate sometimes complex information into easily understood messaging suitable for all audiences and channels.
You will be able to build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including your peers, SES and Ministerial advisors.
We are also seeking someone who supports and contributes to a positive workplace culture, is willing to lead by example in relation to workplace behaviours and is committed to the development of themselves and staff.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

  • Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
  • Health Assessment: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline Level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. More information on the security clearance vetting process is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a team of professional communication staff to deliver quality, timely media engagement materials, services and advice to portfolio Ministerial Offices and department staff.
  • Developing, shaping and providing advice on media messaging.
  • Cultivating productive working relationships within Ministerial Offices and throughout the Department to successfully deliver media engagement activities.
  • Producing proactive and reactive media engagement strategies.
  • Monitoring media and providing relevant advice to key stakeholders – including the development of media issues briefings.
  • Supporting the department’s Budget announcements as part of a department-wide taskforce.
  • Participating in and managing an after hours on-call service.
  • Mentoring and supporting the development of junior staff.
