    VEA Compensation and Support (VCS) is a multi-disciplinary branch responsible for the management and assessment of compensation claims and the divisional focus on procedures, planning and delegate learning and development. Our clients are serving and former Defence Force members, veterans and legatees. Depending on the dates and type of service, eligibility can fall under one or more of the applicable legislations.
    As an EL2 you will support the Assistant Secretary, VEA Compensation & Support Branch, in directing the work and managing the resources of the Branch to ensure DVA’s business targets are met.
    You will lead a team providing high quality services to our clients, advice to the Senior Executive team and to colleagues across the Department. You will work in partnership with colleagues across APS Departments, agencies and other levels of government.
    You will promote workplace practices consistent with the APS Values and have excellent interpersonal skills. Executive Level 2 employees are strong managers and create an environment that empowers their staff to give their best.
    You will develop strategies and solutions to complex operational challenges, in an environment of ambiguity, change and reform. You will have the opportunity to challenge current business practices and innovate in order to improve the efficiency of our processes and enhance our services to clients, which will be delivered in a client centric manner.

Responsibilities:

As an Executive Level 2 you will:

  • As a member of the VEA Compensation & Support Senior Management Group you will:
  • Work collaboratively to establish the Branch’s work priorities, develop and assign available resources to achieve specified outcomes
  • Work collaboratively to achieve further high levels of consistency and integration across activities
  • Establish and maintain constructive internal networks.
  • As a functional manager you will:
  • Take responsibility for achievement of outcomes in line with DVA and the Branch’s goals
  • Provide leadership and direction in the achievement of the Branch’s outcomes
  • Establish priorities and develop strategies, policy and procedures to ensure the long-term operational success of your functions. Determine priorities and workflow to ensure optimum use of resources
  • Provide strategic advice in your area
  • Liaise internally and externally on politically sensitive issues
  • Lead identification and implementation of business improvement and change initiatives, using data and evidence based decision making processes
  • Develop, implement and review policies, systems and practices within area of responsibility.
  • Prepare reports, submissions, position papers, briefings and complex correspondence
  • This role has responsibility for the Prison Servicing Officer and the Claims Support team.

  • Provide strong leadership and direction to your teams via mentoring, coaching and performance management

  • As a project director you will:
  • Undertake high level, complex project work and be responsible for the achievement of specified project outcomes
  • Coordinate project deliverables with Program Managers, Project Managers and Change Managers
  • Identify, engage and liaise with DVA stakeholders
  • Lead business readiness and change management approach
  • Coordinate identification and recommendations for DVA Business Operating Model changes.
