  • Experience in managing and mentoring legal staff.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Admitted, or eligible for admission, as a legal practitioner of the High Court of Australia or a Supreme Court of a State or Territory.
  • Currently hold or eligible to hold an unrestricted South Australian Practising Certificate.

Responsibilities:

The Director Regional Legal Services (RLS) is principally responsible for the delivery of legal services in South Australia, and provides high-quality legal and strategic advice to assist the agency. The Director RLS manages a small legal team in their region, and has a role in mentoring and guiding junior legal staff nationally. The Director RLS is a member of the national legal executive and assists the Deputy General-Counsels deliver a national in-house legal service focused on assisting the ACIC achieve its strategic objectives.

The type of work performed may include:

  • Providing strategic legal advice about the exercise of the ACIC coercive powers and other statutory functions
  • Providing advice on the exercise of investigative capabilities, criminal and civil litigation matters including taking carriage of litigation in State and Federal Courts and tribunals, working with external solicitors and counsel
  • Providing legal advice on law reform proposals, including identifying law reform opportunities, and working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Providing advice on employment and administrative law, including FOI
