ABOUT US

The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central source committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where it makes sense.
The eLearning Technology (ELT) Team is a unit within WTS providing Western faculty, staff, and students with the best possible resources to enable effective use of technology in teaching and learning. We believe in continual learning, and use ongoing research, testing, collaboration and training to develop and maintain a suite of technology tools that are leading edge and endeavour to engage our user community in the best use of these resources.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in relevant discipline
  • Undergraduate Degree in Statistics, Computer Science or related technology or education fields is preferred

Experience:

  • 2 years experience working with eLearning technologies
  • Previous experience in eLearning technology administration and working with data is preferred
  • Experience with data analytics and data platforms preferred
  • Programming experience is preferred
  • Experience in a higher-education setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge in technical documentation to keep documentation and user manuals up-to-date to reflect changes to services and customer feedback
  • Strong technical skills in the realm of technology system support and administration
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical users
  • Ability to explain the immediate context of the situation, asking questions with follow-up, and soliciting advice prior to taking action
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments with a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development

Responsibilities:

The eLearning Technology Specialist (technology stack specialist) is a key member of a unique team within Western Technology Services (WTS), consisting of other eLearning Technology Specialists, Digital Media Specialists, and the ITRC student Media Designers. The role will be accountable for helping the eLearning Technology team to meet its goals in support of teaching and learning at Western. The role will research, promote, and implement new eLearning technologies at Western and collaborate with other eLearning groups on campus, such as Western Libraries, Office of the Registrar and the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
The role will administer and help support centrally managed eLearning technologies including the LMS. As part of the eLearning Technology team, they will integrate external tools into the LMS and act as a primary contact for centrally supported third party eLearning Tools. They will promote features and best practices for all tools in Western’s eLearning Technology stack. Additionally, they will monitor usage of these tools and, using available usage data and research on available solutions, provide guidance on which eLearning tools best meet the teaching and learning goals of the university.
