Position: Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Portsmouth, South Coast
Industry: Electrical Contracting (Water Utilities)
Salary: £50 - £60k p.a. (dependent upon experience)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing electrical systems and solutions tailored to the water industry, including water treatment plants, pumping stations, and associated infrastructure. Your work will ensure the successful delivery of projects, adhering to both client requirements and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
· Management of project specific design deliverables,
· Interpret and understand the client requirements from client documents (drawings, specifications, correspondence etc.),
· Communicate with the client, external design resources and subcontractors, to ensure compliance with specifications,
· Complete site surveys of existing assets,
· Optioneering and feasibility studies,
· Assist with tender pricing,
· Produce details of procurement specifications for electrical equipment and detailed design construction drawings,
· Project manage third party designs and provide design assistance to installation and commissioning teams,
· Review vendor control system Functional Design Specifications for compliance,
· Review vendor data and drawings for all electrical equipment and package plant, motor control centres, power distribution panels and field equipment panels,
· Manage internal and external project specific design costs, liaising with the Project Manager,
· Undertake and check the design calculations, including modelling of the complete power system (AMTECH/Trimble),
· Produce 2D CAD electrical design in AutoCad LT
· Assist in the development of process control philosophies with the Process Engineer and suppliers,
· Production of electrical scope and works enquiry submission documents,
· Deliver estimation of material and labour costs
· Include risk assessments to support detailed design proposals,
· Prepare detailed electrical specifications,
· Produce single line and block cable diagrams, load schedules, equipment specifications, cable schedules, equipment schedules, telemetry schedules, instrument schedules and I/O listings,
· Liaise with clients and subcontractors.
Skills & Qualifications:
· Proven experience as an Electrical Designer, ideally within the water or utilities industry.
· A relevant electrical engineering qualification (HNC, HND, NVQ Level 6, degree or equivalent time served).
· Strong knowledge of electrical design software including AutoCAD LT, Trimble Cable Calcs as a MUST.
· Familiarity with electrical standards, codes, and regulations (e.g. BS7671/WIMES).
· Experience in low voltage (LV) systems.
· Excellent knowledge of control panels
· Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
· Strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
· Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to project challenges.
Desirable Skills:
· Experience in the design of electrical systems.
· Knowledge of renewable energy integration within water industry projects.
· Familiarity with water-specific software tools or systems.
