ELECTRICAL DESIGNER (1-YEAR CONTRACT)

We are looking for an Electrical Designer (1-Year Contract) for our Peterborough, Ontario site.
BWXT NEC’s Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Design Services Manager, responsibilities of the designer performing this role include supporting the technical direction for the overall project, interfacing with both external and internal customers including the Instrumentation and Controls Engineering department. Electrical designers participate in the development and drafting of designs for automated and semi-automated equipment.
The Design Services department uses such tools as AutoCAD®, AutoCAD Electrical®, IntEC® and Inventor® to create concept drawings, detailed designs, elementary drawings, BOMs, wiring diagrams and can also provide design replacement solutions for obsolete components such as relays, motors and circuit cards.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop concept designs into detail drawings & bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies or product using CAD packages including AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment with teams of Professional Engineers and Technologists.
  • Produce and update general assembly drawings, interconnection block diagrams, functional block diagrams, cable assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, wiring lists, and bills of material.
  • Selection of instrumentation, control, and power components based on Engineering requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and occasional customer review meetings, providing resource information and design input.
  • Liaise with customer design and operations personnel to gather site-specific design information.
  • Assist others on specific projects.
  • Accountable for cost and schedule on assigned projects.
