Description:

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE OF THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

  • Industry experience (preferably marine) but would consider experience from other industries such as water, wastewater, power, pharmaceutical, drinks or food industry.
  • Competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) plus electrical drawing software (Elecdes, AutoCad or equivalent).
  • Knowledge and experience in the design of motor control centres (MCCs).
  • Knowledge and experience designing electrical systems rated up to and including 6.6kV.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a HNC / HND with design experience.
  • A member of a relevant professional institution (typically IET) with the ability to achieve EngTech or above.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Strategic Projects Manager (NPD), the Electrical Engineer - NPD will work within the New Product Development Team to develop and deliver commercially viable products / projects, in line with the company’s growth strategy. Governance will be provided from Subject Matter Experts, Engineering Managers and the Technical

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Develop the cost effective electrical systems for equipment onboard gas ship
  • Be involved in specifying, reviewing and optimising the design of MCCs supplied by 3rd party vendors
  • Perform and prepare calculations, data sheets, specifications, schedules and drawings as required. Including, but not restricted to the following:
  • Motors, junction boxes, control panels, starter panels, rotating machinery packages, cables/glands
  • Schedules – cable and power/utilities
  • Calculations – cable sizing
  • Technical drawings – electrical systems, wiring diagrams and hazardous/safe area plans
  • Efficiently and effectively review and checking of drawings, documents, schedules etc
  • Evaluation of quotations and liaising with other disciplines, suppliers and third parties to ensure equipment and system technical correctness, optimum commercial benefit and integrity
  • Contribute to Product and Process Safety systems workshops (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL and LoPA).
  • Focus on continuous improvement for all stages of NPD process.

This role is full time, Monday to Friday and is based in Rosyth with hybrid working arrangements - 2 days in the office, 3 days working from home.
