Description:
Position: Electrical Engineer – Pulsed Power
Location: Richmond, BC, Canada
General Fusion is transforming how the world is energized by developing the first commercially-viable fusion power plant. Fusion will deliver clean, safe, and on-demand power at industrial scale, providing a powerful complement to renewables and a pathway to a zero-emissions grid.
Combining new technologies, proven industrial processes, and advances in fundamental fusion science, General Fusion aims to be the first in the world to develop commercial fusion power. Key performance requirements have been demonstrated at the system level, setting the stage for building a pre-commercial fusion power prototype.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are looking for an experienced Pulsed Power Engineer to join our Pulsed Power Team. The role will focus on developing our large (multiple megajoule) power supplies and expanding our pulsed power capabilities for plasma formation and compression purposes.
This is a hands-on position that requires experience with real-world applications.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
A degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Required:
- minimum of 3 years relevant experience
- Experience with the design of high current, high voltage systems
- Flexibility to adapt to a rapidly advancing and evolving work environment
- Strong documentation and organization skills and experience with tools such as:
- MS Office, Sharepoint, PDM, Github, etc.
Ability to work independently and coordinate with other team members
Preferred:
Mechanical design and assembly skills (SolidWorks, machine shop hands-on, 3D printing)
- Experience designing for high vacuum environments
- Experience with design and implementation of electronics in a high EMI environment
- Hands-on high voltage testing and safety
- Experience with Python, Assembly, C/C++ or other relevant programming languages
Responsibilities:
- Design of high voltage / high current pulsed power components and systems to support fusion research
- Construction and testing of design prototypes
- Deployment of pulsed power systems, including coordination with internal and external groups
- Designing for challenging environments (high temperature, high vacuum, EMI, reactive metal, high shock/vibration)
