Electrical Engineer position to support Energy and Utilities department with Transmission & Distribution and Generation at Fort Hills site

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 7-10 years of experience.
  • Five or more years in maintenance / reliability engineering, with experience in supporting industrial operating plant in Oil & Gas industry
  • Knowledge of design, maintenance, testing and commissioning of Electrical equipment as per IEEE, CSA, NFPA and NETA standards
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Standards as per AESO ARS & AUC and support compliance programs
  • Experience with GE, ABB and SEL Relay programming and interface software is preferred
  • Experience with management of change (MOC) and incident investigation processes
  • Experience interfacing with multiple stakeholders to help troubleshoot failures and respond in timely fashion
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork attitude to help progress issues to satisfactory resolution
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of Alberta (APEGA)

Responsibilities:

  • Support day to day alarm reviews, troubleshooting and corrective action plans of HV substation equipment, Switchgear, MCC, Motors, VFD, UPS, Emergency Generator, Transformers & Heat Tracing Systems.
  • Develop scopes of work keeping safety as top priority followed by reliability, quality, and availability of electrical assets
  • Lead, implement and support techniques for bad actor resolution; analysis of equipment history and life cycle assessments and perform equipment and system reliability assessments
  • Assess equipment reliability using online condition-based tools such as transformer oil analysis, partial discharge, Infrared / Corona scanning, online monitoring, and offline testing
  • Review PM program in GE APM and recommend changes to support reliable & cost-effective operation of existing and new electrical assets.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance and capital projects through design reviews & documentation approval, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Experience with ETAP for review and recommendations on protection coordination, arc flash and motor starting studies
  • Review power system studies and recommend changes required to ensure safe and reliable operation as per Industry and Suncor Standards

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of Suncor Calgary office with occasional travel to site at Fort Hills to support O&M team.
  • This will be 5X2 shift working for 40 hours from Monday – Friday.
  • Occasional extended shift or weekend support would be required to meet business needs during critical planned and unplanned event.
