Description:

Honeybee Robotics, a Blue Origin Company, has been at the forefront of robotics for over 40 years, establishing ourselves as pioneers in developing novel exploration systems for the most extreme planetary environments. At our Southern California location, we look to “Touch Life” by supporting planetary science, including every NASA Mars rover since Spirit and Opportunity. We aim to “Mine the Sky” through the development of practical In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) solutions. We search for technically brilliant individuals in engineering, software, and support fields who take ownership of their work, enjoy collaborating in teams, and have a laser focus on the details that drive excellence.
The Electrical Harness Design Engineer is responsible for development of electrical wire harnesses (concept through product test) for terrestrial and off world robotic sampling systems. Specifically, the Harness Design Engineer will define, acquire, integrate, validate, and maintain electrical harnesses for aerospace robotic products. This role will report to the Avionics Manager.

  • Solid grasp of mechanical and electrical principles related to wire harness design.
  • Experience with the use of common lab equipment such as multimeters, continuity testers, Megaohmeters.
  • Experience in harness schematic capture.
  • Experience in IPC/NASA equivalent harness design practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain electrical test equipment to ensure the quality of our harness assemblies.
  • Develop the Block Interconnect Diagrams (BID) and Wiring Interconnect Diagrams (WID).
  • Design electrical harnesses for power distribution, RF, communication, and high-speed data signals.
  • Select harness components, connectors, back shells, cable, and wire.
  • Create 3D routed harness data files.
  • Create harness detail and installation drawings.
  • Design and install harness support fixtures.
  • Support design configuration, development, and trade studies.
  • Develop harness routing requirements, interfaces, specifications, and process controls.
  • Plan and execute the assembly and testing of cables and harnesses.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements and operational cost and schedule savings.
