Job Description:
The Electrical Technician will build and test electrical and electronic components, equipment, and systems for the Destuff-It brand of products that are manufactured at the Elmira facilities. They will work with the Electrical Resource Manager, Associate Supervisors, Electrical Assemblers, and other key personnel as they ensure the efficient and accurate completion of projects and achieve production goals.
Role #1: Electrical Technician 80% of time
Responsibilities:
- Conduct or supervise the installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical and electronic equipment and systems.
- Assist in the design, development and testing of electrical and electronic components, equipment, and systems.
- Assist in inspection, testing, adjusting and evaluation of incoming electrical, electro-mechanical and electronic components and assemblies to ensure conformance with product specifications and tolerances.
- Set up and operate specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose, test and analyze the performance of electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems.
- Assist in building and testing prototypes to specifications.
- Carry out a limited range of technical functions in support of research in electrical and electronic engineering.
- Install, operate, and maintain electrical and electronic equipment and systems.
- Calibrate electrical or electronic equipment and instruments according to technical manuals and written instructions.
- Collect and compile operational or experimental data and assist in the preparation of estimates, schedules, budgets, specifications, and reports.
- Time-manage daily activities to meet required deadlines of job orders.
- Collaborate with the supervisor, and follow prints, diagrams, and manufacturing information sheets.
- Assemble and mount electrical, mechanical, and sub-assembly components on to backplanes’, into enclosures, structures etc. by following standard layouts.
- Build and terminate wire harness sub-assemblies.
- Perform crimping and wiring point to point in assemblies as required.
- Check for functionality by performing continuity checks.
- Accurately complete checklists as required to deadlines.
- Assemble enclosures/structures where applicable.
- Support inventory maintenance by performing cycle counts, following standard materials management procedures.
- Perform all job functions with adherence to the organization’s Philosophy and Values as well as the Safety and Environmental standards.
- Communicate with the Supervisor and other assembly personnel to solve issues.
Role #2: Other 20% of time
Responsibilities:
- Perform related work as required.
- Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, and terminology of the electrical trade.
- Carry out mechanical assembly.
- Assist other employees as required.
- Troubleshooting, repair, or modify units as required using ELS safety procedures.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, employees are also expected to complete other duties as required. Dependent on business needs, percent of work may change as needed. All employees are expected to have familiarized themselves with the Health & Safety and Human Resources manuals, including their responsibilities as outlined in each.
Education:
- Completion of a Diploma or Degree in electrical or electronics engineering technology, or relevant working experience and industry knowledge.
- Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, and terminology of the electrical trade.
Job Qualifications and Training Requirements:
- 1 to 2 years of experience as an electrical technician in a manufacturing setting
- Experience with material handling equipment and manufacturing an asset.
- Experienced with hand tools, torque wrenches, and screwdrivers, and able to read plans/blueprints.
- Ability to drill and tap holes in steel backplanes.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and safety procedures of a manufacturing facility.
- Various safety training, such as, working at heights, scissor lift, forklift, rigging and others, current license, an asset.
- Proficient skills with computers, Microsoft Outlook, logbook documentation, and using a smartphone.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license for occasional business travel between ELS plants and on-site client locations. Able to provide drivers abstract if requested.

- Must be able to manage frequent interruptions and multiple tasks daily.
- Ability to move around factory workstations, and lift from 25 to 50 pounds, walking and stairs.
- Sitting, working at desk/personal computer for extended periods.
