NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis. It is Canada’s first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor, Ontario. The Electrode Quality Engineer is responsible for operating the Quality Management System (QMS) and writing procedures to support the QMS development in relation to the newly build Electrode Quality Assurance Laboratory. Other core responsibilities include leading audits across all areas of the organization, providing training for QMS, and working on quality projects to set up and establish a world class laboratory. This role drives continuous quality improvement by gathering and analyzing data, maintaining standards, proposing solutions, and communicating with all stakeholders, from operators to high-level management.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or related field is required, preference is given to those who have a background in Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
- 1-3 years of experience working in a manufacturing, laboratory or research setting is preferred.
- Quality Core Tools preferred; Experience with complete core documents, including control plans and process failure mode effects analysis (PFMEA).
- Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC).
- Working knowledge of measurement, calibration and DOE.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 9000.
- Proficiency with Minitab preferred
- Greenbelt or Blackbelt in Lean Six Sigma (LSS)

Responsibilities:
Engineering support and leadership in the Electrode Quality Assurance labs:
- Support cleanliness in the quality electrode lab in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
- Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain, eliminating all sources of contamination.
- Write and maintain the Quality Procedures and ensure contents are appropriate for business, operation, and customer requirements, as well as the Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ability to perform control plan audits and process audits.
- Ensure accurate and standardized collection of data.
- Track SPC data of all inspections and drive future changes (set up control limit and management).
- Maintain and repair laboratory machines as necessary and track spare parts.
- Train operators and engineers on quality issues and any changes which occur.
- Investment and purchasing process for testing equipment and asset management.
- Study and introduce new inspection methods new inspection that can improve detection ability.
- Organize and conduct thorough and timely Line Patrol Audit, Process Patrol Audit, Layered Audit, Vision System Audit in appropriate work areas.
- Performing & analyzing capability studies & GRR on in-house products.
Data Analysis, problem analysis and continuous improvement actions:
- Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to adhere to process and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to product, process, or system.
- Review, collect, and analyze data on quality procedures to continuously improve plant targets.
- Promote the use of customer preferred techniques for continuous improvement such as Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), and Measurement System Analysis.
- Create, populate, or maintain databases for tracking validation activities, test results, or validated systems; utilize required software.
- Leading 8D problem solving (root cause analysis) for internal & customer issue, with the ability to recommend resolution of identified deviations from established product or process standards.
- Escalate and submit non-conformance reports and follow-up to ensure problems are corrected.
- Implement corrective action for process & product related concerns.
Communication, presentation and collaboration across departments:
- Part verification and approval for engineering changes.
- Provide quality information to customer service team and results as required.
- Communicate with regulatory agencies regarding compliance documentation or validation results (includes safety, environmental requirements).
- Leading projects throughout project life cycle including development of core quality documents.
- Support IATF and other Quality management systems integration.
- Participate in internal or external training programs to maintain knowledge of validation principles, industry trends, or novel technologies.
