Description:

ABOUT US

Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences.
Diamond houses two centres dedicated to Electron microscopy: the electron Bio-imaging Centre (eBIC) and the electron Physical Sciences Imaging Centre (ePSIC).

Responsibilities:

We now have an opportunity for an Electron Microscopy Scientist to work within the ePSIC team.
This is an opportunity to join a team of expert electron microscopists embedded within the wider X-Ray synchrotron community at Diamond. The successful candidate will support the day-to-day operation of the ePSIC instruments, provide technical, scientific and data analysis expertise for external users, develop their own independent research portfolio and contribute to technique development and implementation.

Further duties will include:

  • Managing the general running of the EM labs and auxiliary lab equipment.
  • Developing a research program in a scientific topic in physical sciences with electron microscopy as the primary tool and ideally exploiting the X- ray capabilities.
  • Providing a local contact including set up and out of hours support to users of EM at Diamond, providing advice and guidance on experiments, data analysis and research techniques.
  • Assisting in the development of new equipment on the microscope, including testing and commissioning.
  • Disseminating and communicating microscopes capabilities and output through publications and presentations.
