About the role
We are currently recruiting an Electronics Production Engineer to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Production Engineering Team.
QTS UK is one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of Aerial Target Systems. The company has grown rapidly in recent years and has ambitious plans for the future.
The Electronics Production Engineer position is a unique opportunity to work on leading projects within the aerospace industry (Aerial Target / UAS platforms) with exposure to cutting-edge aerospace technology.
The Electronics Production Engineer role will report to the Engineering Support Manager.
What will I be doing?
Based at our site in Ashford, Kent you will define and document the way we build and test electromechanical assemblies, create test fixtures and processes and provide technical support to the purchasing and production teams. You will also contribute manufacturing expertise to the design team through design reviews.

Responsibilities:

Liaising with R&D to ensure new products are designed for manufacture, assembly and test (DfMA).
Defining manufacturing processes (assembly/test/inspection) and developing work instructions for the manufacturing teams, (new and legacy products).
Ensuring safe working practices are embedded in all aspects of the role.
Defining and developing test fixtures and tools to aid and simplify production processes.
Seeking opportunities for improvement in product quality, efficiency of manufacture and cost reduction.
Managing new product introduction to the factory.
Providing support to purchasing and production teams for obsolescence or parts availability issues.
Managing change to products in the live manufacturing environment.
Assisting the QA team with quality investigations (e.g. root cause analysis/5 whys).
Documenting and keeping accurate records of ongoing projects, following departmental procedures.
Supporting production departments to resolve technical issues and challenges.
Software development experience is an advantage.
Availability for international travel to support worldwide operations is advantageous but not essential.
What do I need?
You will be degree qualified in a relevant field or have equivalent experience and have a mi nimum of 3 years experience in an electronic/production engineering environment,
We also ask that you have the following key capabilities/knowledge:
Radiofrequency test and measurement experience.
Ability to read and interpret electronics schematic drawings.
Ability to read and interpret electronic component data sheets and identify solutions to component obsolescence and availability issues.
Understanding of EMC issues and solutions.
Electronics design and manufacturing (analogue/digital, with RF desirable).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent IT skills with experience of Microsoft Office apps with Office 365 suite an advantage
Experience with 3D parametric CAD, (SolidWorks/SolidWorks Electrical desirable).
A helpful can-do attitude with a focus on delivering for customers.
PCB design, including schematic capture, layout and output to manufacture.
LEAN manufacturing experience desirable.
