The City of Fort Worth Fire Department consists of four divisions including Executive Services, Operations, Educational and Support Services, and Administration Services. The Fire Department is seeking to to hire two (2) qualified Emergency Management Officer I positions to serve as an integral team member within its Emergency Management Office.
This position will assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the City’s emergency operation plans and in Emergency Operations Center activities. The Fort Worth Fire Department protects one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country with a wide range of services, including: emergency preparedness, education, prevention and response. Covering 345 square miles with a dedicated workforce of more than 1,000 employees, the Department has become one of the most efficient and respected in the nation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in emergency planning, public administration or a related field with no experience required.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid technician level amateur radio license within six months of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Internship in an Emergency Management Office or setting.
- Completion of the following National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) courses: IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 and IS-2200.
Responsibilities:
- Developing an integrated emergency management system that includes severe weather, acts of terrorism, chemical and technological hazards, public health, and special events.
- Develop and conduct emergency drills, tabletop exercises, functional and full-scale exercises with multiple departments, regional, city and county agencies, community partners, private sector, state and federal agencies to prepare for emergencies and disasters.
- Plan and conduct meetings and present public awareness programs to the public, civic groups, medical facilities, schools and various private organizations; and encourage the development of emergency plans.
- Review and update emergency operations plans; coordinate resources with various divisions, departments and City or County officials and respond to public inquiries; provide information within the area of assignment; and resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Assists in emergency preparedness exercises; plans, conduct and evaluate exercises; and complete reports.
- This position responds to support operations during actual emergencies, disasters and/or special events either in the field or the Emergency Operations Center and is subject to call back and after-hours work.
- Responds to public inquiries; provides information within the area of assignment; and resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Serves as Emergency Management Duty Officer on a rotating 24/7 basis. Maintains availability to respond to emergency scenes or activate the Emergency Operations Center.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations.
