Responsibilities:
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the CAMHS team as a Nurse Consultant, where you will be responsible for:
- Providing clinical mental health nursing expertise for children, adolescents, peri-natal women, and their families with mental health issues, in line with the National Mental Health Policy and Standards for Mental Health Services.
- Delivering specialist mental health nursing assessment, risk assessment, referral, and clinical intervention for consumers with complex or immediate mental health needs.
- Ensuring optimal consumer care through direct and comprehensive mental health assessment, individual follow-up, and referral of mental health consumers within the Paediatric Emergency Department and inpatient areas of WCH.
- Providing assessment, education, therapeutic intervention, and referral or care transition to support consumer health and recovery.
- Consulting and liaising with other professional disciplines and non-governmental organizations.
- Offering direction, support, orientation, and education to nursing staff and other staff using expert clinical knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Leading and participating in action research projects, quality improvement activities, and policy development within the practice setting
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate. Must be enrolled in an approved Mental Health Course or hold a qualification in mental health practice.
- Registered Nurses with at least 3 years post registration experience
- Demonstrated competence in delivering proficient and comprehensive mental health nursing assessment, risk assessment and care planning/referral to, children and young people experiencing complex, acute or chronic mental illness/ trauma or a wide range of emotional and behavioural disturbance
- Effective Leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet set timeline
