Description:

Working to promote quality patient/client-centred care and high professional standards, the Emergency Room Technician will assist the ED care teams and patients with, initial and ongoing patient assessments, monitoring VS, O2 therapy, Sp02 monitoring, IV therapy, performing 12 lead ECGs, blood glucose testing, assisting with ambulation, turning and positioning of patients, supporting stable offload patients and other unit functions within the Paramedics knowledge, skill and judgement. Continuous collaboration with the RN team members is essential. Shift rotations are subject to change.

QUALIFICATIONS:

o Completion of a Paramedic program; successful completion of the Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant certification examination
o Experience delivering patient care preferred
o Current BCLS, ACLS is considered an asset
o Demonstrated proficient knowledge of CPR and ability to perform compressions during CPR
o Experience working within an interprofessional team
o Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the position, physically capable to lift, turn, transfer patients manually and with assistance
o Knowledge of body mechanics for the pushing of stretchers and wheelchairs and proper patient transfer techniques required
o Critical thinking and able to perform appropriately in emergency situations
o Demonstrated advanced competence with regard to patient safety
o Strong communication skills including conflict management and situational awareness
o Experience in multitasking and task management
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment and decision-making skills
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with delegation of tasks
o Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
o Consistent and regular attendance required
