As the province’s largest energy provider with more than 100 years of knowledge and experience, we proudly deliver renewable energy, natural gas, electricity and propane to 1.2 million customers.
We’re actively seeking new talent to join our mission of transforming B.C.’s energy landscape. As one of BC’s Top Employers with a diverse team of over 2,600 employees, we are committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong, and grow. Join us, and together, let’s shape a brighter future for B.C. Position Overview
We know that investing in the safety and wellness of our people is a crucial element to achieving this future, and we need your help in shaping a balanced work environment that allows our FortisBC family to thrive.
That’s why we need you to join our team of over 2,800 employees as one of our Employee Wellness and Accommodations Advisors. As a problem-solver who can naturally identify needs and find the best solutions, you will collaborate proactively with union representatives and disability providers to support the needs of your peers along with your larger efforts to shape a work environment that promotes wellness. Your ability to handle situations thoughtfully and with attention to detail will be necessary as the work accommodations and personal arrangements you manage will involve sensitive information. In this role, you will:
Review, administer and manage a high case load of complex claims and review ongoing eligibility and entitlement to benefits based on medical documentation, functional abilities, job demands, and contractual provisions.
Build strong relationships with unions, leaders, and insurance providers.
Coordinate and manage the multiple care and service providers and stakeholders involved in the employee’s recovery journey.
Craft and assess graduated return to work schedules, conduct weekly updates and communicate with stakeholders.
Serve as point of contact in answering questions and addressing health concerns, treatment options and referrals, as required, and support employees in crisis.
Support other departments in analyzing physical demands and risks of jobs within their teams.
Assist in implementing new programs and processes related to return to work.
Promote employee health and ensures the best outcomes for injured and ill employees. What it takes:
A bachelor’s degree or diploma in human resources management or health sciences from a recognized program, plus a minimum three years of experience in disability claims adjudication or case management (including experience with mental health claims).
A Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Return to Work Coordinator (CRWC) certification is considered an asset.
Excellent communication and organizational skills for supporting clients and their complex needs and circumstances.
Great critical thinking skills and professionalism to exercise judgment, tact, and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling confidential information.
Demonstrated ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment, including handling crisis situations as they arise.
Exceptional problem solving and conflict resolution skills for finding the best possible solutions for employees to support their return to work and overall team.
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
