We’re looking for an Employment Attorney to join our European Employment Legal Team on an initial 18-month contract to partner with our business functions and play a crucial role in providing legal guidance and support. You will be responsible for handling a wide range of legal matters and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
The primary objective will be to provide employment legal support to the business in achieving its goals and objectives, whilst helping to protect the company’s legal interests and highlighting and/or minimizing risk.

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant experience as a UK qualified employment lawyer (around 2-5 years’ PQE as an indicative level, although suitable candidates with experience outside this band will be considered) in a recognised law firm and/or an in-house position.
  • Experience of advising in relation to other European jurisdictions (together with external legal counsel) and supporting cross-border projects will be advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of employment laws, regulations, and legal principles relevant to the industry or business sector.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Strong/effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with stakeholders at all levels, with an ability to influence; positively welcomes new challenges and changes.
  • Good commercial awareness, with a pragmatic, solution-based approach to issues, and an ability to think at a risk-focussed level.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and work under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of integrity and ethics.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Project Work: Supporting on key strategic projects, often with a pan-European focus, including the implementation of the Pay Transparency Directive, employment related aspects of ESG, and expansion into emerging markets.
  • Legal Advisory: Providing timely and accurate individual and collective employment law advice and counsel to business partners on a broad spectrum of legal issues, including exit procedures, disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, pay and benefits, employment documentation, right to work, trade unions / Works Councils and TUPE.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Staying abreast of new EU and UK employment laws and regulations that impact or might impact on TJX Europe’s operations and supporting the business in ensuring compliance. Developing and implementing precedents, policies, and procedures.
  • Training and Education: Conducting or supporting the provision of legal training, both within the function and the wider business.
  • External Relationships: Managing effective relationships (locally and cross border) with external legal counsel.
