Description:

Position Title: Employment Coach, Youth Breakthrough to Employment (YBEAT) Program
Location: Fraser Valley Region (Hybrid), Employer/Community/Participant in-person meetings are required
Terms: Temporary, Full-time
Start Date: As soon as possible
End Date: March 31, 2025 (possibility of extension contingent on funding)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: $53,000 - $59,000 annually
Reports to: Supervisor, YBEAT
Benefits: Full group benefits; YMCA Staff Membership; 3 weeks’ vacation entitlement

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-Secondary Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working with youth or persons facing barriers due to mental health challenges and/or mental illness
  • CDP or related certification is an asset
  • Experience with developing and facilitating community-based programming and services
  • Strong facilitation skills with proven experience in developing curriculum in life, employability and computer skills within an employment program setting
  • Awareness of local youth resources and willingness to develop community supports
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and multi-task in high demand environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Computer proficiency – Adobe, DocuSign, Salesforce and Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook and SharePoint
  • High degree of independence and initiative within a team environment
  • Proven responsibility to coordinate tasks and work as part of a team
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR-C Certificate required, can be obtained within 30 days of start date
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate life, employability, job maintenance, social and wellness workshops
  • Coordinates participant recruitment and screening process, assessing their work readiness and fit for the program
  • Assist program participants in the creation of an Action Plan to map out goals for employment and/or training
  • Conduct weekly 1-1 check-ins with participants and arrange follow up meetings to support and track employment progress
  • Connect with participant supports (e.g. mental health support workers, case managers, clinical counsellors, etc.) to provide wrap around programming
  • Effectively respond to crisis and implement behavioral management strategies
  • Develop and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders including referral agencies and community organizations (in particular, those working with youth with mental illness), government agencies and businesses/employer community
  • Conduct outreach in order to engage and recruit suitable participants
  • Recruit potential employers for work opportunities for participants
  • Help participants to develop strategies in managing their mental health barriers in the work place
  • Match participants with employers that align with their goals and that will support long term attachment to the labour market
  • Provide follow up support to program participants who have completed the program and collect proof of employment
  • Maintain accurate case notes, reports and statistical information using Salesforce CRM
  • Travel occasionally required
