The City of Edmonton is on the lookout for a dynamic Program Coordinator to drive the evolution of our ISO 14001 Certified Environmental Management System (EMS). In this role, you’ll be at the heart of our environmental strategy, ensuring that our EMS not only meets but exceeds standards, aligning with the City’s bold vision for energy transition and climate resilience.
Reporting to the General Supervisor, you’ll collaborate with a talented team of specialists, leading initiatives that span from project management to system efficiency improvements.

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:

  • Extensive knowledge of the City’s Environmental Management System, ISO 14001 Standard and the Environment & Climate Resilience policies, strategies, and programs; design, delivery and management
  • Significant knowledge of corporate priorities, strategies and initiatives and associated timelines associated with corporate reporting processes/protocols
  • Knowledge and experience in strategic and business planning, the business planning cycle and process with a systems thinking approach
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies and promotional activities
  • Experience in preparing and presenting technical briefs and reports for leadership
  • Experience and skill in the use of analytics, and data intelligence to support decision making processes
  • Experience in an inter-governmental environment, working with government officials and stakeholders
  • Experience in integrating strategic planning into operational practice
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as necessitated by work assignments

Qualifications:

  • University degree in environmental sciences, climate science, climate policy, urban planning, environmental studies, business administration, political science or a related field
  • A minimum of two (2) years of directly related work experience is required. Leadership, project management, policy development and coordination experience within a public sector environment would be beneficia

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively within a team of environmental professionals and under the direction of the GS, this role will plan, support and coordinate EMS work across the business area(s) to help meet the City of Edmonton’s environmental objectives as required by the ISO 14001 Standard and as described in various policy and planning documents such as the Environmental Policy C512, the Environmental Management System Policy C505, the Community Energy Transition Strategy, the Climate Resilient Edmonton: Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan, the City Plan and ConnectEdmonton
  • Develop, organize and track reports, project charters, supporting documents, business cases, contract agreements and forms, and related program planning and management materials
  • Organize, track and manage external service contracts based on schedule, budget and deliverable(s)
  • Complete jurisdictional scans and work with internal and external stakeholders in the development and revision of programs, policies, procedures and associated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and registries
  • Create, manage and communicate key messages appropriate to different internal stakeholder audiences through a variety of communication channels including dashboards, reports, presentations, web pages and online articles
  • Develop and maintain integrated OneCity, Department, Branch, Section and Unit environment and climate strategies, policies and activities
  • Deliver tangible results in accordance with the model of continual improvement implemented in the EMS and aligned with the City’s relevant energy, environment and climate policies, strategies, programs and projects
  • Identify gaps within existing policies and programs and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Support the development of new plans, policies and procedures in alignment with the ongoing management and continual improvement of the EMS
  • Coordinate engagement with internal and external stakeholders to collect input on development of plans, policies and procedures
  • Other related duties as assigned
