Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Energy Engineer within our Energy Services division is responsible for performing increasingly complex assessments and evaluating building envelopes, mechanical, electrical, and process systems to determine energy consumption, develop client relationships, and to review reports.
The ideal candidate for this position is an engineer with 3-5+ years of previous experience in the energy or engineering fields, understands ASHRAE, ASTM, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac guidelines, and has good technical knowledge of building systems. The professional in this role should be able to perform ASHRAE Level II energy audits without direct supervision, as well as collaborate with a team on larger properties.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Approximately 3-5+ years of relevant previous experience
  • Experience modeling commercial and multi-family properties utilizing industry standard software programs such as eQuest, TREAT or Energy Pro
  • Experience (3+ years) performing energy audits for commercial/industrial properties and multi-family complexes
  • Knowledge and experience in assessing various property types (including but not limited to commercial buildings, manufacturing/industrial properties, office buildings from one story to high-rise, strip malls, shopping centers, and multi-family housing properties)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be extremely organized and detail-oriented with great multi-tasking skills
  • Personable and able to communicate with people at all levels
  • Willingness to travel if necessary
  • Must be a self-starter, resourceful, and able to work productively and independently on multiple projects at a time under strict deadlines with guidance from senior staff

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience with Property Condition Assessments, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or HUD guidelines and Property Needs Assessments a plus
  • Experience and interest in developing new business a plus
  • Electrification experience a plus
  • Commissioning experience a plus

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or related field

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The work environment may be both indoors and outdoors. Indoor work takes place in a typical office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Outdoor work requires the ability to effectively perform work in all types of weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, type, handle office and/or field equipment, speak and hear. The employee may be required to stand, walk, balance, kneel or crouch and travel independently. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs energy analysis and provides reports about efficiency solutions including energy analytics, implementing innovative systems, green certifications, and sustainable policies/practices
  • Collects and analyzes field data related to energy usage and compares existing energy consumption levels to normative data
  • Analyzes energy bills including utility rates/tariffs to gather historical energy usage data
  • Prepares audit reports containing energy analysis results or recommendations for energy cost savings
  • Evaluates building envelopes, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or process systems to determine the energy consumption of each system
  • Conducts basic interviews and research covering property maintenance history
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the operation, maintenance, and energy efficiency of building or process systems
  • Analyzes technical feasibility of energy saving measures using knowledge of engineering, energy production, energy use, construction, maintenance, system operation, and process systems
  • Writes clear and concise condition and status reports using in-house report templates
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously
  • May complete technical reviews
  • Ensures all projects meet the clients’ goals and scope expectations
  • Builds an intimate, in-depth understanding of the clients’ goals with outstanding customer service, timely responses, and proactive solutions
