Job Description
As part of our Management Consulting Division, we offer cutting-edge software to selected energy companies. In particular, we are world-leaders in power market software, with our model BID3 used by over 20 major transmission operators, utilities and renewable developers, as well as the UK government. BID3 is an electricity market model that uses advanced mathematical techniques to model the dispatch of power stations, market prices, capacity evolution, and all other important features of power markets.
We are looking for someone to join our expanding team of developers, with a focus on coding the BID3 market model, but also developing a range of other models that explore the net-zero future in gas, carbon and transport.
This role is primarily a software development role, but also, we offer the opportunity to get involved in consultancy assignments in the exciting energy sphere. We have a very international team in Oxford and work closely with our teams in other countries across the world which will enrich your experience.
For more information about the BID3 power market model, please see afry.com/bid3
Qualifications
If you have expertise in at least two of these areas, and interest in all three, then you are probably a great match for us:
1. Optimisation models
2. Energy market analysis
3. Programming

We are looking for developers who are enthusiastic and passionate. It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we will help you develop along the way.

  • We undertake a lot of complex analysis, a good proportion of which is numerical, so we are looking for people with an aptitude for quantitative analysis.
  • Due to the modelling requirement of the role you should have some previous experience writing optimisation problems in an algebraic modelling language such as mosel, GAMS or AMPL, or in general languages such as Python.
  • You will have knowledge of C#.net or similar language. The successful applicant will combine exceptional problem solving and technical capability with a passion to deliver great solutions for our users.
  • To enable you to flourish in this role, you should have knowledge of database design, such as MS SQL Server or similar.
  • Virtually all the work we do requires team working so if you have good communication skills and the ability to work well with others within a project team and wider office environment you will fit in well. You will also have experience of working in a software development team.

We are recruiting for a wide range of experience for this role, from those finishing university to seasoned industry professionals.
