Job Description
SLR is looking for an Energy Modeling and Development Specialist to join our dynamic and experienced team of environmental solution providers. We are looking for a highly motivated professional who will assist our clients to responsibly decarbonize the grid and make Canadian energy markets more affordable, sustainable, and efficient. As a senior practitioner, you will be a key contributor to our technical service offerings, designing and implementing innovative energy solutions and providing sound technical advice to our clients.
In addition to your technical skills, you will use your ability to apply regulatory knowledge, client service, and people skills, to strategically develop and manage client relationships and help grow our services. You will have significant experience working with clients to develop technical scopes of work, proposal preparation, and the successful management and delivery of projects.

Key Responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in Python and other relevant computer programming languages.
  • Proven experience in financial modelling, cost-benefit analysis, and data analysis, particularly in the energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of energy systems, finance, and market dynamics.
  • Experience in conducting feasibility assessments, resource needs assessments, and asset valuation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to draft comprehensive reports and present findings to stakeholders.
  • A team player with a keen interest in sustainability and innovation in the energy industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive cost-benefit analyses and price forecasting studies to predict future market dynamics and inform client strategies and decision making
  • Carry out pre-feasibility assessments, energy resource evaluations, and complete techno-economic assessments
  • Report on the competitiveness and economic efficiency of energy projects, highlighting key findings and recommendations
  • Liaise with Developers, Utilities, ISOs, and equipment manufacturers as subject matter expert on Grid Integration and transmission planning.
  • Lead the data analytics strategy to determine asset optimization and energy arbitrage opportunities
  • Create quantitative analysis and run advanced pricing and economic models (Excel/Python) to assess energy storage projects under various market conditions
  • Develop tools for automating model updates and improving model integration with other in-house analytics tools
  • Articulate and explain energy market developments and provide analysis of critical changes to internal stakeholders
