Key elements of this role include::

  • Join Nova Scotia Power’s Energy Control Centre’s Renewable and Decarbonization Portfolio Team as a Subject Matter Expert contributing to the development of systems and processes designed to transform business operations to meet provincial and federal environmental policies seeking to phase out coal fired generation by 2030.
  • Participate in solution design, development and implementation of technology and processes including automation of optimization, aggregation, prioritization, curtailment, dispatch, reconciliation, and settlement transactions with existing and future wind producers in Nova Scotia. You will also be introduced to Energy Desk operations and subsequently be tasked with working with the project and operation teams to transition this new role/function to ongoing Energy Dispatch operations.
  • Be responsible to liaise with generation plant operators to ensure fleet status is up to date, liaise with Market Participants to ensure appropriate information is current prior to dispatch, participate day ahead, daily and intraday planning activities and update optimization tools based on confirmed plans. You will prepare options based on real time analysis from prior hours or days. Perform real time scenario building and studies for Energy System Operator Analysis and work towards dispatch optimization collaboration with the Energy System Operator.
  • Work with System Security Engineer to ensure all points of interest/concern are incorporated and understood, prepare reports based on optimization tool utilization, create record of Optimization Tool decision deviation if/when they occur and provide documented justification, create record of the day/shift transactions for historical record, ensure audit trail/records are created and managed to reflect real time activities.
  • Create and maintain Business Intelligence / Tableau Reporting - Dashboard reporting for audits etc. collect and prepare data for Audit and Regulatory requests.
  • Become expert on utilizing OTS function for dispatch within context of day ahead planning for optimization and work with System Operator for storm / major outage preparation and planning and work with System Operators to update and prepare operator schedules.

You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
These skills will make you successful::

SKILLS, CAPABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Formal Training in Computer Science, Information or Operational Technology, Technologist or Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years’ experience in a technology diverse business user setting (particularly within the electricity utility sector, is preferred).
  • Strong analytical and data management (i.e., report development and maintenance) experience and capabilities.
  • 1+ year of experience working with Business Intelligence tools i.e., BI Power Builder or Tableau
  • 1+ year of experience and high aptitude for utilizing various technology platforms and solutions
  • Experience working within a project environment.
  • Able to coordinate multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Exposure to specific Software System application such as SCADA and PI tools is considered an asset.
  • Comfortable with new technologies.
  • Working in a 24 hour (12 hour shifts) operation
