Job Function: To provide complete Electrical Engineer services, from power distribution to machine controls, from capital projects to small jobs, for Manufacturing Engineers, Production, Maintenance, IT, and EHS associates.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the electrical installation, relocation or modification of new or existing manufacturing and/or facility equipment by designing and specifying the requirements of the power supply, control system and any interconnections between equipment.
  • Supporting installation, testing and maintenance of electrical and control wiring, equipment, PLC program, system commissioning and maintenance
  • Designing 600v power supplies, specifying the source and installing power switches, fuses and wiring to new or relocated equipment.
  • Designing, assembling and installing new control panels or designing the modifications of existing control panels.
  • Designing and installing power controls or low voltage devices or instrumentation for existing and new plant equipment and processes.
  • Creating, installing, modifying, updating and maintaining PLC and HMI programs.
  • Preparing and issuing SOPs, work instructions, as installed power and control drawings, PLC programs, HMI programs, VFD settings, operating and maintenance manuals for new or modified equipment or systems to the Maintenance department.
  • Supporting the maintenance department in troubleshooting and repairing of power distribution, production and facility equipment.
  • Supporting maintenance for corrective and preventative maintenance of machinery within the manufacturing facility
  • Creating or modifying power or control circuits on AutoCAD software or hardcopy drawings.
  • Must ensure all electrical tasks or jobs are implemented in a safe matter for maintenance electricians and electrical contractors.
  • Must ensure all electrical installations, relocations, and modifications meet the Electrical Safety Code and are approved by an Electrical Inspector.
  • Assist and support the Electrical Inspector on quarterly inspections of completed electrical work orders.
  • Maintain, modify and expand the existing energy monitoring system program and components.
  • Co-ordinating and scheduling of electrical tasks or jobs for maintenance electricians and electrical contractors.
  • Providing feedback regarding improvements and reducing energy consumption.
  • Updating the power single line drawings, the power distribution layout drawing and the lighting fixture layout drawing on the AutoCAD files.
  • Lighting modifications and upgrades.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • PLC programming experience with ladder logic, function block, and knowledge of Siemens, Allen Bradly, Omron, Mitsubishi, Automation Direct and Beckhoff PLCs would be an asset
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience working with electrical, automation, process equipment installation, wiring, commissioning and service.
  • Hands-on experience from project development through implementation
  • Knowledge of wood manufacturing processes, robotic controls and CNC Machines would be an asset
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, codes and standards for hazardous areas
  • Experience with electrical certifications
  • Experience with directing and working closely with industrial electricians and electrical contractors.
  • Experience in designing electrical system schematics and layouts, program creation, performing modification, repair, installation, maintenance, improvement and troubleshooting of various types of industrial electrical equipment and associated electrical and electronic controls
  • Experience with AutoCAD software.
  • Knowledge of quality control management systems.
  • Knowledge of CMMS software Maximo an asset.
  • Adept in MS Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project.
  • Specifying, installing, programming, and troubleshooting all types of variable frequency drives and servo drives.
  • Experience with Johnson Control, building automation system?
  • Designing, specifying, installing and modifying safety control circuits and devices.
  • Modbus programming between PLCs or field I/Os.
  • Designing, specifying, installing light fixtures and occupancy sensors.
  • Experience with emergency power backup system.
  • Experience with pneumatic controls, vacuum pumps, dust collectors.

Strong Skills In:

  • Hands-on experience in an industrial setting, working with electrical power distribution, machine controls, PLC controls, safety controls, VFDs, equipment installation, wiring and commissioning.
  • PLC and HMI programming, troubleshooting and maintaining backup programming and parameters
  • Operating in a team environment: team direction, training/coaching, motivation, flexible to multiple tasks.
  • Detail oriented with excellent verbal, writing and reporting skills
  • Troubleshooting production and facility equipment and system.
  • Reading, interpreting and enforcing the Electrical Safety Code.
  • AutoCAD software.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and P.Eng. designation is required
