Description:

The Mechanical Engineer plays a vital role in driving RRL’s engineering capabilities and innovations. The engineer will be involved in various key areas, including design, analysis, research, and development, while upholding the highest standards of safety and professional ethics. As a key member of our team, the Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with various departments, drive technological advancements, and manage strategic projects.
Given the interdisciplinary nature of the role, candidates with cross-disciplinary experience in areas such as hydraulics, programming, mining, electronics, or manufacturing processes will be particularly valued.
This position plays a crucial role in advancing RRL’s technological capabilities and maintaining our position as a leader in the mining industry.

  • Undertake the research, design, and selection of mechanical systems.
  • Carefully balance cost and risk in all engineering work.
  • Research, propose and implement new technologies and/or processes as needed.
  • Provide engineering technical support to field projects.
  • Sign off as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) on mechanical drawings and designs.
  • Conduct stress analysis, finite element analysis, and other engineering calculations.
  • Check and approve drawings completed by others.
  • Develop and maintain mechanical schematics, assembly drawings, and layouts.
  • Enforce and adhere to Redpath’s established processes and technical standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and implement feedback to improve product designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., electrical, software) to ensure integration of mechanical systems with other components.
  • Assist in the development of prototypes and proof-of-concept designs.
  • Maintain proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Vault, and other relevant design software.
  • Utilize simulation and modeling software to test and validate mechanical system designs.
  • Propose and implement improvements to design processes and workflows.
  • Participate in mining industry conferences and workshops to stay current with the latest developments in mechanical design and related fields.

Education

  • Required:
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline, with eligibility for P.Eng. license, or;
  • Mechanical Engineering degree from a post-secondary institution, with demonstrably equivalent engineering abilities.
  • Preferred:
  • Bachelor or Masters of Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline, with P.Eng. license.

Work Experience

  • Junior or Intermediate:
  • Required: 0-2 years postgraduate work, with experience in a mechanical, manufacturing, mining, or related field.
  • Preferred: 2-4 years postgraduate work, with experience in a mechanical, manufacturing, mining, or related field.
  • Senior:
  • Required: 5-10 years in a mechanical, manufacturing, mining, or similar field.
  • Preferred: 10+ years in a mechanical, manufacturing, mining, or similar field.

Computer and Software Skills

  • Required:
  • MS Office Suite.
  • Autodesk Suite:
  • Inventor (or similar)
  • AutoCAD
  • Vault
  • Considered an asset:
  • Programming proficiency (major asset).
  • Specialized software:
  • NASTRAN (inventor)
  • Tube and pipe (inventor)
  • Blender
  • Automation Studio
  • Use of AI tools.
