JOB SUMMARY:
The Engineer, Engineering Services South (Electrical) is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies, and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible for preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, tender evaluations, and equipment and construction drawings. This position will prepare project plans, costs, and schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies, and practices
- Provide technical assistance for plant operations and maintenance, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Conduct root cause analysis investigations into equipment failures and make recommendations on courses of action.
- Participate in equipment reliability programs at the facilities for the electrical equipment health.
- Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases and make recommendations on courses of action.
- Prepare project plans, estimates, budget forecasts, schedules and risk registries and initiate corrective action as appropriate.
- Manage scope, schedule, cost, risk and stakeholder relationships for all assigned contracts and projects.
- Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staff.
- Provide direction to staff, consultants and other external technical agencies as required.
- Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
- Professional Engineering Designation - P. Eng.
- Relevant experience in a combination of the following engineering tasks: operations and maintenance support, reliability programs implementation/execution, process analysis and optimization, providing design, construction, commissioning, contract management and coordination of projects activities
- Demonstrated experience in electrical design with industrial or power generation facilities/experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant design codes, standards, industry best practices, new trends and developments related to electrical equipment and systems.
- Project management experience including the development of scopes of work, cost estimates, project schedules, procurement documents, bidding evaluations and contract negotiation.
- Ability to mentor, coach, and support Engineers-In-Training
- Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
- Ability to work successfully in an interdisciplinary engineering team environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills
- Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork
- Demonstrated skill in SaskPower’s Competencies
- Must have a continuing record of professional development
NOTES
- Engineer-In-Training applications will be accepted and may be considered for this position
- If the successful applicant appointed to this position is an EIT, the key accountabilities as well as knowledge/skills/abilities will align with the job description and expectations of an Engineer-In-Training (7201). The applicant will retain the title of Engineer-In-Training and remain compensated at a 7201 until such a time that they are eligible for a 7501 either through bidding or P. Eng designation process.
A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered
