About the DepartmentThe Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water (DRMDW) drives growth for Queensland by managing sustainable water resources, leadinginnovation in manufacturing, and developing our regions. From our offices in Brisbane and a network of regional offices and manufacturing hubs, more than 700DRDMW staff work to create a Queensland where communities, businesses and water resources are sustainable and resilient.
The RoleThe Department’s dam safety team is responsible for regulating water dams in Queensland. We set and regulate the standards that dam owners must comply with to protect the community. The team of engineers are responsible for conducting dam site audits, assessing and approving failure impact assessments and emergency action plans, observing technical review of dam projects, attending engineering workshops and inspections, actively searching for and assessing new dams, and providing technical support during wet weather events. This is the largest engineering team in the Department.
Reporting to the Principal Engineer, Dam Safety, the Engineer is responsible for undertaking engineering investigations of referable dams and assessing technicaldocumentation submitted by dam owners and undertaking hydrological and hydraulic consequence assessments for small dams. The role also provides opportunities to lead or participate in technical investigations, field work and site visits.
About You- It is desirable that the applicant has at least 2 years post-graduate experience in planning, design and construction of water supply infrastructure projects and associated technical aspects (including hydrology and flood hydraulics).- It is mandatory that the applicant holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.- Limited travel away from the centre may be required.- A class ‘C’ driver’s license is required (you will be required to drive a motor vehicle)- Registration as an RPEQ is desirable but not essential.- Flexible work location arrangements will be considered for this opportunity to facilitate an adaptive and agile workforce. For example: the successful candidate may work from a regional or Brisbane based location for all or part of the relieving period.
