Description:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: analyzing the response of systems to static and dynamic environments, human factors engineering, risk assessment and identification of mitigating strategies
  • Experience with modeling, simulation and analysis, including STPA
  • Experience with experiment planning, execution, and reporting to include statistical analysis
  • Experience in establishing and interfacing with customers to meet analytical and experimental deliverables with demonstrated ability to meet requirements, timelines, and budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and lead a small team of technical staff
    Education/Experience: Position requires a Master’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Department of Energy (DOE) and/or Department of Defense (DOD) weapon systems
  • Substantial evidence of high-quality written reports, presentations, and/or publications
  • Demonstrated experience with quick-turn analyses
  • Currently possess a TS/SCI security clearance
    Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
    Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Responsibilities:

The selected applicant will use their knowledge of scientific analysis principles to solve problems and execute an interesting, diverse and complex array of projects to meet the needs of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and our external customers. Applicants typically have a degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and relevant working experience. Successful applicants will perform the following duties in this position:

  • Perform advanced analyses within the Mechanical and Thermal Engineering group (E-1) in support of unique problem sets, using scientific principles and computational tools
  • Lead a diverse set of activities across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines in support of weapon systems research and development, to include experimental validation planning, execution, and reporting
  • Develop innovative and advanced concepts, theories, methods, techniques, and approaches to address specialized problems in the fields of human factors and environmental survivability
  • Develop methodologies using Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) to identify focal areas of advance interrogations and engineering assessments
  • Develop new technical capabilities and create opportunities to extend analyses through the expansion of existing efforts and capabilities within the group and collaborating across LANL
  • Serve as a mentor of for early career staff and/or students
