The West Vancouver Engineering Utilities Planning, Design, and Project Delivery Department is seeking a conscientious and self-motivated individual to join our team as a temporary full-time Engineering Assistant II for approximately 10 months. The successful candidate will be responsible for technical field and office work related to a variety of municipal engineering functions for water, sanitary, and storm infrastructures. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent Engineering graduate to enhance their skillset through hands on experience in municipal environment. Reporting to the Utilities Project Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • assisting in preparing cost and quantity estimates, collecting underground and record information including BC One Call, and applying for permits as required from various outside agencies
  • coordinating engineering review processes related to water, sanitary, and storm utilities
  • conducting preliminary review of construction site conditions and reporting back to the supervisor with findings;
  • preparing construction notices and assist in scheduling, survey layout, and prepare and maintain documentations of reports, plans, record drawings, and pictures for construction project; both electronic and hard copies;
  • preparing information as required in response to resident enquiries, requests, and complaints;
  • assisting with site inspection for infrastructure works;
  • liaising between residents, consultants and other department and report back to supervisor; and
  • performing other related duties as required.

The preferred candidate will possess: demonstrated knowledge of civil engineering projects and construction methodology, computer skills in Microsoft Office, strong customer service skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills. The preferred applicant will have completed courses in Public Works operations or be a graduate in the appropriate engineering field of Applied Sciences and Technologies. The successful candidate will possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia
The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials.

$34.29 plus 14% in lieu of benefits
