QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of grade twelve supplemented by Institute of Technology courses in Civil Engineering Technology, GIS Technology, data processing or other relevant field; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some experience as an Engineering Assistant II.
  • Experience with SAP and VanDocs is preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Sewer and Drainage systems design and construction
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS (including extensions such as Network Analyst, Spatial Analyst) and AutoCAD Map 3D data sets and analytics;
  • Working knowledge in the operation of GIS in a municipal environment and interaction with other design/drafting and asset management systems;
  • Working knowledge of standard engineering nomenclature
  • Computer skills with experience in TopoBase, Hansen, and SAP
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with staff and other contacts;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Ability to create shopping carts, process invoices, and generate reports in SAP;
  • Ability to accurately read, draw, and interpret engineering drawings;
  • Ability to work in a team setting with little or no supervision;
  • Ability to work effectively with changing and competing priorities, with frequent interruptions, within a multiple task environment

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. Responsibilities:

MAIN PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

This Engineering Support Technician is responsible for supporting the sewer and drainage monitoring program and the integrated watershed management planning teams. Support provided by the position includes managing contractor budgets and invoicing, providing GIS (Geographic Information System) and CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting) support, performing geospatial and non-spatial data analysis and mapping, and preparing written reports and documentation. This position provides SAP and VanDocs support to the Integrated Sewer and Drainage planning branch members, including Procure-to-Pay (P2P) submissions.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Tracks contractor budgets, creates shopping carts, processes invoices, and generates reports in SAP;
  • Tracks and reports ISDP branch metrics;
  • Researches, reviews, collates and analyzes geospatial data and historic records to assist in identifying monitoring locations and provide support to sewer and drainage planning projects;
  • Creates, maintains, and publishes, where appropriate, geospatial data layers and mapping used to communicate ISDP sewer and drainage projects, plans, and team structure;
  • Assists in resolving issues related to GIS and CAD data used for the monitoring programs as well as sewer and drainage planning;
  • Manages the data management and hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software, including account and password and license management;
  • Completes routine QA/QC procedures on collected data;
  • Develops maps and other graphic displays, as well as Excel graphs and tables, for reporting and presentation purposes;
  • Utilizes geoprocessing tools and scripts to perform statistical analysis and analyse sewer and drainage system simulation model results and other data;
  • Monitors emerging trends in GIS software and tools that support the Sewer and Drainage Utilities;
  • Supports and assists with technical GIS issues or questions;
  • Performs other technical duties required to meet the operational needs of the branch;
  • Organizing and maintaining files in Vandocs as well as other branch libraries and filing systems; and
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned
