Purpose:
Veren is looking to fill Engineering Internship positions for May 2025 based in our head office in Calgary, AB. These internships are 16-months in length and provide you the opportunity to get hands on experience that will develop the skills for a career in Oil and Gas industry.
Please note there are multiple positions available in different areas of specialty, the departments we are hiring for include Drilling, Completions, Reservoir, Development, Planning and Facilities Engineering. Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Interns will work under the guidance of an experienced engineer. You will have the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic high performing team. You will do challenging work, solve problems, and make an impact. Examples of some of the duties, by department are outlined below:

Asset & Pipeline Integrity

  • Conduct pipeline hydraulic calculations using VMGSim or equivalent software
  • Prepare facility, pipeline Engineering Assessment and investigation working files
  • Create ProMonitor, GDM\Converge and AccuMap pipeline infrastructure maps
  • Perform evaluation/optimization of pipeline and surface equipment
  • Evaluate integrity and intersection report
  • Assist the integrity field specialist in gathering design and construction data
  • Conduct economic and financial analysis of field construction costs
  • Help to developing pipeline integrity workflows, templates, and processes
  • Gather, manipulate, and analyze data.

Development

  • Perform decline analysis, economic modeling, and development project sensitivities
  • Conduct evaluations of companies and assets for acquisition/divestiture opportunities
  • Analyze completion, drilling, geology, and production data for new and existing wells
  • Determine feasibility of specific well re-completions or stimulations
  • Conduct financial analysis of lease operating statements
  • Assist with materials for strategic planning and investor relations meetings
  • Prepare and submit governmental or asset reports or applications
  • Gather, manipulate, and analyze data using: PowerBI, Verdazo, and ValNav
  • Complete monthly and quarterly reports including new well production, type well economics, and technology trial updates
  • Communicate and collaborate with Reservoir, Geology, Completions, Land, Operations, Facilities, and Drilling teams on projects

Planning

  • Collaborate with senior development engineers to effectively manage project deliverables
  • Support Development Planning with budget management and system maintenance
  • Develop, analyze, and maintain Power BI tools for tracking KPI’s (key performance indicators)
  • Maintain and update Corporate FFD (Full Field Development Plan)
  • Coordinate and roll-up quarterly drilling inventory reports
  • Present findings and results to engineering teams and management
  • Working closely with senior engineers to develop cutting-edge models and tools for comprehensive well performance analysis, strategic field development, and long-term planning

Drilling & Completions

  • Evaluate drilling and completion data and techniques within the company’s operated areas and analogous fields
  • Lead new technology evaluations and field trials with chemicals, equipment and processes
  • Prepare performance reports for management detailing safety, operations, and cost trends
  • Development of computer applications to improve efficiencies and accuracy of information
  • Work closely with Engineers, Superintendents and Technicians
  • Work with other teams – Development, Reservoir, Geo Sciences to collaborate on multi discipline projects
  • Attend industry training and seminars
  • Field visits/tours as required
  • Exposure to leading edge technologies and operations
  • Be part of a highly technical, high functioning team

Facilities

  • Conduct pipeline hydraulic calculations using VMGSim or equivalent software
  • Assist in preparing AFE costs based on technical and budget demands
  • Prepare facility and pipeline project working files
  • Create Accumap pipeline infrastructure maps
  • Perform evaluation/optimization of surface equipment
  • Assist in facility and/or field gathering design and construction
  • Prepare governmental applications
  • Conduct economic or financial analysis of field construction costs
  • Gather, manipulate, and analyze data

Reservoir

  • Reservoir computer modeling in CMG or similar
  • Conduct reservoir and waterflood surveillance/management
  • Conduct reservoir studies for the purpose of optimizing production in a specific pool or area
  • Evaluate opportunities for wells for optimizations, recompletions, injector conversions, pressure observation, and/or abandonments
  • Complete regulatory compliance for operations in Alberta and Saskatchewan
  • Provide technical support for reserves forecast and estimates
  • Gather, manipulate, and analyze data using: PowerBI, Verdazo, ValNav
  • Communicate and collaborate with Exploitation, Geology, Drilling, Completions, Land, and Operation teams on various projects

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in 3rd year of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and scheduled to return to school following a 16-month internship
  • Previous experience in the oil and gas industry would be an asset
  • Excellent computer skills with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
  • Experience with business intelligence software (Power BI, Spotfire) and/or data analysis tools (Python, R) would be an asset
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment is required
  • Enthusiastic individual with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Team player who enjoys learning and contributing to team goals
