Description:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One year of experience as an Engineering Technician 2 OR five years of experience as an engineering technician; OR equivalent education/experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- An Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
- Excellent communication abilities in written and verbal forms
- Ability to design and initiate novel laboratory experiments to advance teaching and research
- Ability to use CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
- Ability to operate CNC machines - Mills and Lathes, and 3D printers
Responsibilities:
The School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS) at Washington State University Tri-Cities in Richland, WA, invites applications for a full-time Engineering Technician 3 position.
The Engineering Technician manages all the school laboratories in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering and thereby directly impacts the educational experience of our students and the research activities in the school. The responsibilities of this position encompass engineering laboratory operations and support, laboratory research/project support, laboratory safety as well as security, and other related duties as assigned by the school director.
Under general direction, the Engineering Technician performs complex senior technical work designing, developing, manufacturing, assembling, installing, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing instruments, apparatus and equipment for engineering and scientific instructional and research applications. Additionally, the technician determines most suitable designs to achieve desired instructional and/or research goals, independently designs complete systems, peripherals, data acquisition programs, or interfaces, estimates equipment needs for the laboratory shop, and develops and manages preventive maintenance initiatives.
The position is within the School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS), which is WSU’s latest academic unit and offers Baccalaureate, Master’s, and Doctoral programs. SEAS actively collaborates with the nearby PNNL (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory), which offers numerous internship and projects opportunities to our students.
