THE COMPANY:

Phlux is an award-winning tech start-up based in Sheffield, UK. The company has commercialised a breakthrough infrared sensor technology that will be at the heart of advanced driver safety features using LIDAR, ultra-fast low latency communication networks, and seeing the invisible with 3D imaging.
The company has raised over £5M of investment to date, is revenue generating and currently employs 15 members of staff divided between Operations, Sales & Marketing, Engineering, Semiconductor devices and Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A background in mechanical, electronics or systems engineering
  • 5 years’ experience in engineering project management preferably in a startup or fast-paced environment
  • Excellent design and development skills gained in a system based company
  • A track record of managing multiple engineering projects through to delivery
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proven ability to collaborate across multifunctional teams and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with budget management, resource planning and knowledge of the design and development tools required to deliver complex system
  • Strong problem-solving and risk mitigation skills
  • An understanding of continuous improvement methodology
  • Ability to learn quickly; work under pressure and to challenging deadlines.
  • Proactive in the removal of barriers and roadblocks
  • Travel to USA / Europe / China to meet with suppliers if necessary
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE:

The successful applicant will join our engineering team as we develop our second product range designed for LIDAR, greenhouse gas sensing, defence and security systems. The suitable candidate will help to develop and deliver prototypes, new products, test rigs and demo platforms ensuring that parts and prototypes are compliant with internal and external customer requirements. As the engineering project leader, they will work in our engineering team to provide day to day management of the programs and team focusing on the delivery of system level projects / products and delivering on company objectives.
The applicant should have excellent organizational and communication skills and be comfortable working with engineers, technicians, technical sales, and management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engineering project planning and Execution. Develop detailed project plans, manage timelines, and oversee the execution of system level engineering products and projects comprising of electronics, hardware, firmware and software.
  • Creation of Engineering specifications derived from customer requirements and marketing/sales guidance.
  • Identify potential risks and roadblocks early, develop mitigation plans, and work with teams to resolve challenges as they arise.
  • Oversee project budgets and resource allocation, ensuring that they are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Lead third party suppliers in design and delivery from initial prototypes to final products.
  • Champion Phlux’s design and development process for new opto-electronic modules.
  • Be the day-to-day contact for engineering support.
  • Communicate with selected customers in collaboration with sales and marketing.
  • Be the interface between stakeholders and drive collaboration.
  • Set priorities and track progress against goals, driving projects to delivery.
  • Provide regular project status and progress updates to the management team.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the application of best practice across the Engineering Team.
  • Constantly seek out new ways of delivering Design and Development projects, improving lead times, reducing cost and removing barriers to progress.
