The District of West Vancouver Engineering Department has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time Engineering Technician (Roads & Transportation).

Reporting to the Transportation Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • The coordination of the District’s data collection and asset management programs, such as traffic speed and volume data program, pavement marking program, and streetlight maintenance program;
  • processing street occupancy permits and vegetation trimming requests;
  • conducting field studies, to assess sightlines, traffic speed and volume, stop sign compliance, and parking volumes and duration;
  • creating drawings related to the work;
  • assembling, reviewing, and interpreting transportation related data;
  • providing technical information and assistance to District staff, independent consultants, and contractors engaged in road and bridge construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance;
  • providing information, assistance, and interpretation to the public and staff concerning road and bridge maintenance issues, applicable policies, bylaws and regulations; and
  • performing other related duties as required.

The preferred candidate will possess:

  • A diploma of Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • a membership or eligibility for full membership in the Applied Science Technologist and Technicians Association of BC as an Applied Science Technologist or Certified Technician;
  • a minimum of 2 years’ experience in municipal road engineering;
  • demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office;
  • strong customer service and interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia and access to a personal vehicle is required.
  • proficiency in the use of AutoCAD would be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Hours of Work:
35 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)
Starting Rate of Pay:
$41.78 per hour. This position has a pay structure with five steps that increases annually.
